Mario Bros. remake: devlog #1
**Hey Everyone!… ** Hope you guys are doing well! I’m excited to share my latest devlog with you. This time, I took on the challenge of remaking the classic game Mario Bros, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out. While it’s not as polished as the original, it’s fully playable and brings back a wave of nostalgia. The best part? It’s a project I built by myself, which gives me a great sense of accomplishment!
This is my third game project, and it took me around 20–25 hours to complete. It has been an incredible learning experience, filled with challenges, growth, and moments of joy.
following are the thing I’ve learned, improved and faced difficulties thus far:
Challenges I Faced:
- first project: creating or finding the proper art assets was the biggest hurdle.
- second project: I was planning to submit it in jam but due to burnouts I wasn’t able to finished the project in timeline.
- current project: code gets much larger and messy as you go on introducing new things.
What I’ve Learned and Improved:
- while creating assets it’s important to have a loose idea of whatever you are creating. having perfect idea or no idea at all results in lot of redo’s and time consumption which ultimately results in burnouts. so its best to start with the vague concept and let your presence of mind do the rest.
- you can program almost any features you wants, but you’ll need to manage the code for it properly or it’ll turn into a mess as it’ll increase in size and you never want to visit it again XD.(still need to learn to manage the code. I’ll start keeping document from now on)
- level design is the most annoying part for me. As I find it hard to from where to start and where to end.(got to learn my way around it.)
- Managing Animations or debugging related problems can become very tricky sometimes.
things I did for the first time in this project:
- worked with sounds
- tried recreating a part of the game
- assets customization(its only few minor changes into main assets)
- worked on the details upto some extent
Final Thoughts: This project was an incredible journey of learning and growth. It reminded me how much I enjoy game development, even with its challenges. I still have a lot to learn, but every project pushes me closer to mastering this craft.
I hope you’ll check out the game and share your thoughts!
